Revelation: The Seven - Part 4 - Thyatira

The thought of the letter to the church in Thyatira follows very closely to the letter to the church at Pergamon, that we looked at last week. It's a letter about a church that had many good points, but also was engaged in compromising with error, compromising with sin - like the church at Pergamon.

We will take an in-depth look at the seriousness of sin in the church and how God reacts to it, the evidence of true Christianity, and the wonderful, gracious promise of God to His own.

This Sunday we welcome Pr John Snelgrove back to The Bridge, continuing the series Revelation: The Seven.

Revelation: The Seven - Part 3 - Pergamum: Compromising

In the letter Pergamum, Jesus encourages this church for withstanding physical, social and spiritual persecution. But the church at Pergamum was tolerating false teaching in the church. So Jesus rebukes them for their apostate beliefs and resulting immoral behaviour.

The sad story of Pergamum is that at some point the apostasy won. Today there are no Christians in Pergamum. The great problem is that it can happen to us, our family, or to our church. It is important to take a stand for the truth of God’s word.

Revelation: The Seven - Part 2 - The One Who Conquers

In the letter to the church in Smyrna, Jesus affirms his Lordship over human history and that he is the one who died and lives forevermore. Jesus, the one who loves his church in Smyrna, applies his resurrection authority and love in a tender and courage-producing way to a struggling little church. The church at Smyrna was going to face heartache, suffering and persecution, but Jesus reassures them that faithfulness in the midst of persecution will lead to the crown of life.

Revelation: The Seven - Part 1 - First Love

This Sunday we will begin a new series, Revelation: The Seven. Each Sunday we will look at one of the seven churches in Revelation 2-3. This Sunday, Pr. Chris will preach from Revelation 2:1-7. In this passage, Jesus commended the church at Ephesus for how they serve faithfully, endure hardships, have sound doctrine, and hate heretics. All signs pointed to a healthy vibrant church that was recognised for great accomplishments, but Jesus had a big criticism. They are not very loving. Instead of merely criticising the Ephesians, we must read Jesus’ words humbly and realise how we could become like them.

It is Finished - Part 2

Last week, Pr. Jay preached on the depth and costliness of the love Christ: “Christ loved us and gave himself for us.” His love was strong enough that He was willing to give up his life for us, so that we may be set free from sin. But his work was not finished with death. Scripture tells us that “on the third day” Jesus rose from the dead. And it is Jesus’ resurrection that is the basis of our hope. Jesus Christ was crucified, but he was raised again as well; and in Jesus’ victory we find our own victory over sin and death.

It is Finished - Part 1

Think of a time someone said something amazing to you. It could be a spouse when he or she said “I love you” for the first time or a parent saying, “I am so proud of you.” This Sunday Jay Clark will be sharing the three most amazing words spoken in history. They are from John 19. It’s when Jesus said, “It is finished!” Why was this statement the most amazing and most significant of all? Come Sunday to find out!

Rooted - Part 10 - Rooted in Love

The message of Christ is radical, surprising, and yet simple. “In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” The Bible tells us that God is a Father who waits, who longs to gather His children together and take them into His arms. We, who were once alienated and His enemies have been offered a place in the family of God through the greater gift of adoption. This God is Father, whose name is hallowed and whose kingdom comes, whom we know through the Son and by the Spirit, whom we run toward as children.

Rooted - Part 9 - Rooted & Resilient

When sharing our faith, we sometimes don’t do a good job of telling unbelievers that even with Jesus life is hard. The book of James reminds us that even in the Christian life, there are trials and temptations.

However, the Christian does not have to be a victim of his circumstance, but can have victory even in times of trials and testing. James tells us that no matter what the trials on the outside, we can experience victory through faith in Christ.
